Hillary Clinton to Be Secretary of State; Bill Richardson to be Secretary of Commerce

This has just broke in.  We’ve been suspecting it all day, but today, sources have just confirmed that Hillary Clinton (D-NY) has been offered the position of Secretary of State by President-Elect Obama, and a source close to Senator Clinton has confirmed that she is expected to accept the position.

Meanwhile, Governor Bill Richardson (D-NM) has been chosen to be the Secretary of Commerce.

Now, personally (and my liberal roommate agrees), I think that Richardson should’ve been made Secretary of State.  After all, he was the Ambassador to the United Nations.  I think that Richardson would’ve brought more to the table than Clinton will.

But, Secretary of State is a higher position than Secretary of Commerce, so Obama probably did this to appease Clinton.  This definitely keeps her in the spotlight, and we may see a Clinton Presidential run again in 2016 (or 2012 if you believe the crazy Clinton followers who think she’ll challenge Obama in a primary).

I can’t believe the Obama Administration is selecting a person as unqualified as Bill Richardson for such a critical position given the state of our economy. While Richardson has managed to rack up an impressive list of titles, if you look at what he has actually accomplished in his various roles, you come up with a big zero. Case in point: the state of NM is in far worse shape since Richardson has been in power from an economic, social and educational perspective. Moreover, he has no experience to speak of in the area of commerce.

It seems as though Richardson, who is only part-Latino, was selected presumably to appease the Latino vote. Ironically, the Latino vote does not support Richardson (as seen in the most recent Presidential campaign.)

Beyond Richardson’s incompetence, let’s not forget all the skeletons he has in his closet from his “extra -curricular” activities.

While I support Obama and most of the choices he has made thus far for his cabinet, I absolutely do not support having Bill Richardson as part of the administration. In every way, Richardson is a bad choice for the Obama and our country.

Congratulations to Mr. Richardson and the former First Lady. Wonder if there’s a cabinet position in store for the other Democratic challenger, John Edwards, who also endorsed Mr. Obama.

John Edwards deserves nothing but shame for the rest of his life. I can understand cheating on your wife (I still think it’s terrible, but I lose all respect for somebody who cheats on his wife who’s going through stage IV cancer.
