House Energy & Commerce Committee: Dingell Out, Waxman In

Earlier today the House of Representatives Democratic caucus voted on who will head up the Energy and Commerce Committee in the 111th Congress.  The caucus voted 137-122 to make Henry Waxman (D-CA29) the next chairman, instead of voting John Dingell (D-MI15) back into the position that he currently holds.

Now, this is pretty big news, seeing as Dingell has been a Congressman for 53 years, compared to Waxman who has only been in office for 33 years.  Although I don’t have any details, reports are that the vote fell along generational lines, with younger Congressmen voting for Waxman and older Representatives voting for Dingell.

Now, I’ve never been a huge fan of Dingell, but Henry Waxman is an extremely liberal Congressman, and has been a huge ally of Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).  I would’ve much rather had Dingell as the head of the committee instead of Waxman.  Here we come environmental liberalism to the extreme!
