Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin’s Daughter, Is Pregnant

Well, here’s a story that shocked me.  Bristol Palin, the 17-year-old daugter of Governor Sarah Palin (R-AK), McCain’s running mate, is 5 months pregnant.  Bristol plans on both marrying the father and keeping the baby.

Barack Obama told reporters, “I have heard some of the news on this and so let me be a clear as possible: I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people’s families are off limits, and people’s children are especially off limits.  This shouldn’t be part of our politics.  It has no relevance to Governor Palin’s performance as governor, or her potential performance as a VP.  And so I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories.”

When Obama was later asked about “unnamed McCain advisor” accusing the Obama campaign of spreading rumors about Bristol, Obama interrupted the reporter, saying, “I am offended by that statement.  There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us.  Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be.  And if I ever thought that it was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that–they’d be fired.”

Sarah and Todd Palin released a statement saying, “Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned.  We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. … Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family.”

Conservative Dr. James Dobson (Focus on the Family), released a press release saying:

In the 32-year history of Focus on the Family, we have offered prayer, counseling and resource assistance to tens of thousands of parents and children in the same situation the Palins are now facing. We have always encouraged the parents to love and support their children and always advised the girls to see their pregnancies through, even though there will of course be challenges along the way. That is what the Palins are doing, and they should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances.

Being a Christian does not mean you’re perfect. Nor does it mean your children are perfect. But it does mean there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord. I’ve been the beneficiary of that forgiveness and restoration in my own life countless times, as I’m sure the Palins have.

The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a ‘hypocrite,’ but all it really means is that she and her family are human. They are in my prayers and those of millions of Americans.

John McCain has said that he knew that Bristol was pregnant and chose Sarah Palin anyway.

I think that was a risky move, but like Obama has said, this should be off limits.  Ultimately, Bristol is 17.  She’s making her own decisions at this point.  It’s not like she’s a 12-year-old, in which case, I’d be saying, “Where were the parents!”  At the age of 17, there’s not much a parent can do other than offer advice and support, and that’s exactly what Sarah and Todd are doing.

I commend the Palin family, and I wish Bristol, the father, and the baby the best.

The bad news: Bristol Palin is pregnant.
The GOOD NEWS: It was an immaculate conception!
Should play right into the hands of the Evangelicals, aye?!
The baby’s name will be Gustav.

They weren’t sure if the “young man” was going to marry her, but Bush sent Dick Cheney over with a shotgun, just for a little “talk.”

    See my blog for photo.

I don’t see anything on your website that’s a link to a blog. Do you have a link to your blog?

  3. Bill Says:

So…as a mom: do you take the VP job knowing your daughter is preggers and there’s going to be a media firestorm over her…or do you not take the job and shield her from that?

I don’t see anyone asking that question.

  4. inkslwc Says:

Well, there’s going to be media attention all over any President/VP’s kids (Chelsea Clinton, the Bush daughters, Cheney’s daughter).

I’m guessing that Sarah went to her family and got approval first. This isn’t something you just mention over breakfast.

  5. Bill Says:

Well, that’s a convenient guess. If you look at pics of her daughter at the Ohio rally she looks terrified. And that’s also (if your take is true) a lot to put on a 17-year-old: “just say the word and mom won’t do this.” I like the idea of being open and communicating with your family, but at some point you as a parent need to do what’s best for your family and that’s that.

On a related note, there’s troubling rumors out there that McCain was impulsive and rash in his decision-making process concerning Palin.

  6. inkslwc Says:

Oh, I agree – I don’t think McCain looked into Palin enough, but I don’t think Sarah did this without talking with her family as a whole, not just saying, “just say the word and mom won’t do this.”

May I reiterate your James HYPOCRITE Dobson quote:

Being a Christian does not mean you’re perfect. Nor does it mean your children are perfect. But it does mean there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord. I’ve been the beneficiary of that forgiveness and restoration in my own life countless times, as I’m sure the Palins have.

Why didn’t Dobson offer said forgiveness and restoration to “scumbag” Bill Clinton and some of his [Dobson’s] errant staffers…His christianity and rhetoric are based on CON-venience and it makes me sick, as a Christian, to “witness” Dobson’s callous misuse of the faith…

wwJd if he saw the mockery Dobson was making of the faith, JESUS, I suppose would treat him like a temple vendor…[i.e., secure the closest prop and whip his donkey!]

  8. inkslwc Says:

When has Dobson ever said he wouldn’t forgive Clinton, or hasn’t for that matter?

  9. Bill Says:

    Speaking of Dobson…ouch!

  10. inkslwc Says:

That was 8 years ago – he’s endorsed him now.

  11. choicematters Says:

This issue here isn’t about picking on a 17yr old girl. It’s about the fact that she was allowed a choice, yet her mother wants to take that right away from everyone else’s daughter.

Also, when Jamie Lynn Spears got pregnant, everyone started trash talking her mom. Saying it was the parents fault. Why is Palin an exception to that? Same circumstances.

I find it funny when people who preach family values are caught in the do as I say not as I do situation. Those in glass houses shouldn’t throw bricks. Sarah Palin is a bully and a hypocrite.

  12. inkslwc Says:

What do you mean the fact that she was allowed a choice? Are you talking about keeping the child? If so, Sarah couldn’t stop her, she’d be 18 before the baby comes.

  13. christianliberal Says:

I fixed the link: thanks for pointing that out.

Like many others have said, that is a family matter about the daughter.

What troubles me is Palin is opposed to sex education, and look what happens to her own daughter. The policy didn’t work out that well for her, but she continues to support it. Go figure.

  14. inkslwc Says:

Alright – I’ve taken the liberty to edit your comment to stick in the right link in your first comment as well (but didn’t edit any of the comment itself).

  15. choicematters Says:

she had a CHOICE. her mother wants it illegal for women to choose what to do with their bodies. good thing her daughter got pregnant before they took away her rights.

Palin also doesn’t believe in birth control. NO birth control?? that’ll work out well.

  16. inkslwc Says:

    1) It’s shouldn’t be the mother’s choice to end another life. It’s a basic defintion difference – you don’t believe that that unborn baby is a life and I do (of course, if by some weird chance you DO believe that the baby is a life, then you’re agreeing that you’re just purely advocating for murder).

    2) She dosn’t not believe in birth control. She’s opposed to birth control that can kill embryos. Find me a quote that says that Palin wants to outlaw condoms.

  17. Bristol Palin and Fiancé Levi Johnston Split Up « Republican Ranting Says:

[…] Sarah Palin, Bristol, had broken up with her fiancé, Levi Johnston.  As you probably remember, Bristol and Levi had a little boy recently, and they named him […]

  18. mrhodes Says:

But Ill still take that over random strangers wanting to touch my belly. *shivver*

  19. raulml_81 Says:

And, just so we can both feel good about being on the same pagebumps on the face ARE pregnancy related. Stupid hormones do that. I get face bumps on a regular basis, and it stinks! But, what is a pregnant girl to do?
