Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s proposed constitutional amendment failed the vote of the people on Sunday.
Among other things, the proposed amendment would have:
- Eliminated Presidential term limits
- Increased the Presidential term from 6 to 7 years
- Realigned the territories
- Shortened the workday
- Giving the President more control of the Central Bank
The main concern among countries, especially America and other semi-democratic countries, was the elimination of term limits. Chavez has vowed to attempt to pass these resolutions through other legal processes.
I say, good for the Venezuelan people, but watch out – as Chavez has said, he isn’t giving up – and it wouldn’t surprise me if he passed this resolution through a not so legal legal process.
